Hi. I live in Auckland in a one car household. I use my bicycle mostly to get to and from work. It’s a slow, 30 minute ride. Raising a family in an Auckland suburb is pretty ‘challenging’ without a car. Sometimes I like to dwell on the physical and financial health benefits I have accrued, thanks to not owning a second (or third) car. I used to dress up in special clothing to ride my bike. Now I just dress for the destination. So, if you see me on my bicycle in hi-viz, that’s probably because I am working on a construction site.

Slow and steady wins the race, eh.

  1. I do not walk very quickly, do not like walking very far, and have significant balance issues. My mobility aid is a Christiania cargo trike. I have been passed ok to drive, but actually do not think I am as my concentration is not quite there. We have saved a fortune going car free, my fitness levels are going up, I can easily do a full supermarket shop and never have parking problems. I checked with a Danish neuro physiotherapist and this is a recommended solution.
